Turner Twins

For the past few days John and I have been visiting with my favorite Cousin Joelle, her rockin' hubby Dave and her gorgeous twin girls Lyla and Pressley. I have a zillion pictures to share, but I will start with the swimming fun we had on Sunday.

Road Trip!!!

Jeff, John and I took a little Goff Family Road trip this last week. We left GP last Wednesday and headed South, staying in Cincinnati overnight. For some reason we never even took out the camera at Conor and Shannons house- oops. We met Katie Kruithof for breakfast at IHOP and she finally got to meet John- Brent couldn't come because he was working :(
From Cincy we got back on 75 and drove to Chattanooga. We had heard good things about the aquarium there and though that John was probably old enough to appreciate it now. We arrived at our hotel around 5 and got all checked in before heading out to downtown for dinner. Chattanooga is a great walking city, right along the river. From our hotel we were able to board the FREE electric tram that took us straight into downtown! We took a walk around the water and John pointed at all the boats he saw, as well as played with a few other kids in the grass. We had dinner at a chain brewery- John flirted with all the waitresses (typical John form) and was a champ at eating out. We all fell asleep early and slept in past 8- I guess we were tired!!!
In the morning, we walked to the hotel restaurant for breakfast and then hit the pool for a few minutes- John is becoming quite the swimmer- as soon as he sees the pool he wants to be IN it, we barely even have time to get our shoes off!

The aquarium was awesome- I wish we got more photos but the lighting was not great inside! John stayed awake much past his regular nap time and didn't even really fuss when we were still inside at lunchtime (I did have some snacks for him to munch on). I think the highlight of his day was playing in MORE water! Outside of the aquarium they have a sort of mini-river with waterfalls and rocks, and kids are allowed to cool off and play! There were 2 other kids playing too and John had a blast.

From Chattanooga we drove on to Atlanta to see the Turners- but I'll blog about that later.....

Pajama Time

We have a pretty good evening routine going on lately. Every night after dinner John has a bath and then gets jammies and then has some play time before bed. Idealy it would be quiet play, but John tends to get pretty hyper before he crashes for sleep- so we roll with it. The other night he was laughing and running all over the house with just his diaper on (he would be naked if we let him!!) I managed to get his shirt on, but then I gave up and put his pants on his head- a la Uncle D who used to wear his bathing suit on his head (and often nothing on his buns!!!) He thought it was pretty funny and laughed a lot, but by the time I got the camera out he was starting to crash. Isn't he precious?

I LOVE his eyes in this picture- you can really see the green and blue in them :) He got my eyes!!!

Oldies but Goodies

Here are some good photo's that got lost in the shuffle!
Yes, John and Owen are in their Jammies, this is first thing in the morning and they just HAD to go in the pool!

I love that John is playing drums on Owen's buns!

Like it or not Owen, John IDOLIZES you!

ToothBrush

We've been brushing John's teeth since he was tiny- he popped his first tooth out before he was 5 months old! Lately he has not wanted us in there, but has been pretty good at brushing on his own, so we've started a 'family tooth brushing time', since he likes to imitate us! He has 14 teeth now so there is a lot of work to be done!

I know, I have been bad at posting lately- I blame sheer exhaustion! We had a busy week last week up in CV with my cousin Katherine, Thom, Alex and Brahm coming to visit. It was so nice to get to catch up with family I haven't seen in 4 years! I have always loved Kath like a big sister- when I was young she was in college at MSU and she and Thom used to come in on weekends to hang out- I remember laughing a ton when they came to visit! Sadly, I don't think I got any pictures of the visit- we were so busy!
On Friday we drove down to Holland to stay with Jeff's parents for a week so they could have some 'John Time', its interesting to see him interact with all of the people in his life! I had a good smile the first morning here though, John was in his highchair for breakfast and he looked around the room saying "PopPopPopPop" in the cute little way he does- he was looking for his PopPop! Dad and John have a priceless little routine in the morning of big cuddles and snuggles in the beard. The only time I see him sit still on a lap is on Pop's (although never for too long!) .... It makes my heart warm to see that bond :)

Yesterday we went to the campground that Jeff's parents belong to- they have a small playground and a pool. John LOVED the swing

hated the tube slide (it was a little big, and the other slide was way too hot from the sun) and he hung on to the rings for a second all by himself....

until he fell!

Poor John, a facefull of dirt- he was pretty grumpy about it- but he didn't cry and he loved being squirted with water to clean it off!

In the pool we are working on blowing bubbles with his face in the water- Katherine teaches swimming lessons and she gave me some pointers on how to teach him. He loves every minute of being in the water, especially when there are tons of other kids around to talk to!

Today its raining so we are going to play inside- maybe after nap time we'll go out and splash in the puddles!
